You and I are amazingly privileged. We are alive to witness one of the most amazing transitions in the history of the church. It’s the transition into a new era.
As I mentioned in the previous post, times of transition are often uncomfortable. We have certainly been through a lot of discomfort over the past couple of years – and undoubtedly there is more to come.
In recent days we have experienced a further step in the transition process. The death of Queen Elizabeth has been rather like an earthquake, the effects of which have yet to fully play out.
God has been very gracious in giving Queen Elizabeth to us and has extended her life and her reign through this period to give us time to establish good foundations of truth. Her presence has held back a lot of evil. She has been God’s anointed over the Commonwealth nations in our day. But her death has brought about a change in the spiritual atmosphere around the world. The covering she provided (or that God provided through her presence) will no longer be there in the same way. So something has to change on our part.
God is King
I am reminded of Isaiah 6. When King Uzziah died, Isaiah saw God on the throne.
In the year that King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord, high and exalted, seated on a throne; and the train of his robe filled the temple. Above him were seraphim, each with six wings: With two wings they covered their faces, with two they covered their feet, and with two they were flying. And they were calling to one another:
“Holy, holy, holy is the Lord Almighty;
the whole earth is full of his glory.”
At the sound of their voices the doorposts and thresholds shook and the temple was filled with smoke.
Isaiah 6:1-4 (NIV)
With the death of Queen Elizabeth, there will be a revealing of God’s majesty and His throne and rulership in a new way – and it will be through the ecclesia. We, as God’s people, are going to have to learn to stand together in a whole new way. And that’s going to require a Kingdom mindset. Yet He is already mantling us with this new authority – everything we need for this new day.
A Kingdom Mindset
Most of us are not particularly used to Kingdom thinking. Our culture tends to severely restrict our focus and push us into individualism and “me first” thinking instead. A Kingdom mindset expands our thinking and puts the King and His Kingdom values first. Kingdom thinking sees beyond our immediate natural circumstances and grasps the magnificence of God’s rule and reign. It therefore compels us to respond differently because we recognise the dominion and power of our King.
A Kingdom mindset will also draw us together in a new way. Spiritual warfare becomes important in order to advance and expand God’s Kingdom. Having a Kingdom mindset enables us to stand together in unity, in full battle array, as His empowered army, under direction of our King.
These are some of the things that God is birthing now. Let’s have eyes to see and ears to hear what the Spirit is saying to the church of our day. It is so exciting be a part of what God is doing!
